Welcome! This blog is the result of a technology analysis project, completed for a course entitled Digital Tools, Trends and Debates, offered by University of Wisconsin-Madison's School of Library and Information Science.
The aim of the project was to analyze one technology - be it a website, an application or something else - in the context of an information organization (such as a library or archive), with a specific audiennce in mind, and determine how and why it was being used, and what potential the technology might (or might not!) hold.
This particular blog examines the use of Tumblr, a blogging platform, in the context of public libraries, with a particular focus on the website's use as a social marketing/outreach tool to library patrons. In the menu above, you'll find various pages addressing the subject. Topics include a discussion of what Tumblr is and how to create and use the features found on the site, an analysis of the use of Tumblr as a social marketing tool in public libraries, and further resources you can consult, both on the use of Tumblr in this context, and resources for using it yourself. I hope you'll find it informative and useful!
And if you don't, here's a kitten to make up for it. (Go on, read the Tumblr 101 section, it'll make more sense.)
